BTC-ECHO integrates micropayment method to allow readers to purchase content based on SatoshiPay’s Blockchain solution
Berlin, 4 July 2019 — BTC-ECHO, one of the largest news and information portals for cryptocurrencies and blockchain solutions in the German speaking region launches its first micropayment application based on blockchain technology with SatoshiPay. Going forward, BTC-ECHO readers can pay for journalistic content via cryptocurrency. This project is just the start of BTC-ECHO establishing new blockchain-based payment models for online journalism together with SatoshiPay.
In order to introduce readers and publishers to the new model, BTC-ECHO in co-operation with SatoshiPay, will distribute 200,000 EUR, which will be issued by the Stellar Development Foundation in the form of their native digital currency, Stellar lumens (XLM). More information can be found at https://www.btc-echo.de/satoshi-pay/ .
Micro transactions involve the payment of small amounts in the cent range. Thanks to blockchain technology, transaction costs per payment can be significantly reduced for platform operators, opening up new possibilities for more flexible payment models.
“What has been missing for digital currencies so far is a real application that is also interesting for the masses,” says Mark Preuss, Managing Director and Founder of BTC-ECHO. “With the SatoshiPay payment solution, we are creating this use case for online journalism. Elements such as advertisement banners and subscription models will soon be a thing of the past. Only those who understand the future can shape it.”
Today traditional subscription models from the print world lead to rigid payment barriers in online journalism. SatoshiPay aims to resolve this and enable readers to pay for individually combinable contents such as text, video, images, or audio.
“We are very pleased to have won BTC-ECHO as one of our first partners in the German speaking region. The publication’s blockchain-friendly readership shares our pioneering spirit and represents the ideal target group for our innovative payment system,” comments Meinhard Benn, CEO and founder of SatoshiPay.
In the future, this should not only create more modular payment options for readers, but also create new revenue opportunities for platform operators and journalists in order to promote new quality standards in digital journalism.
